Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn’s Cover of ‘Final Countdown’ Is Ridiculously Awesome

Feb 14, 2017

“I don’t need to see,” Bela Fleck says as a Dee Snider-style blonde wig is placed upon his noggin. The banjo prophet and his equally talented wife, Abigail Washburn, recently entered the cover song thunderdome at AV Club’s “Undercover” series where they took on the Europe classic, “The Final Countdown.”

The original version of the tune is beyond stupid, but Bela and Abi somehow make it a delicate and delightful instrumental number. Of course, Bela injects a bit of hair metal wankery into the piece by delivering a blistering banjo solo. If only Gob had known about this version … his magic shows would’ve looked so different.

Bela and Abi will play The BGS Stage at this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival. Click here to read our extensive feature on the couple.
